Five Tower Defence Mistakes Everyone Makes at First

Five Tower Defence Mistakes Everyone Makes at First

February 26, 2026 · Lukas Brandt

Almost every tower defence player starts the same way: build lots of cheap towers everywhere. It feels productive and it's usually wrong. Concentrated firepower at a chokepoint beats scattered coverage nearly every time.

The second mistake is ignoring upgrades. A single fully upgraded tower often out-damages three basic ones for less total cost. Learn each tower's upgrade curve before you commit your resources.

Third, people spend their whole budget between waves and leave nothing for emergencies. Keep a small buffer so you can react when a wave surprises you. Fourth, players forget to read enemy types before they arrive, then panic when armoured units walk through their splash damage.

The fifth one is simple: not restarting early. If your opening is bad, a fresh start with a better layout saves more time than grinding through a broken run. Good players restart without ego.
